19th Century chamfered terracotta plinth.
Stamped 'B. GIBBONS STOURBRIDGE', the two brothers (Benjamin and John) set-up in the 1830's and quickly gained a reputation for producing quality goods made from fire-clay.
With well-defined Laurel Wreath mouldings, this is a clear nod to the Classical style renewed and made popular during the earlier Regency Period (Circa 1810-'20).
Whilst there is a break from a previous accident, all four corners are still intact and the plinth stands firm and square. Very heavy.
Quite frankly, face the break away from eyes view and you are staring at a beautiful piece of English craftsmanship!
